Important Update - Recent changes in Covid Guidelines & Restrictions

Dear [firstname]

Following the Northern Ireland Executive announcement on Wednesday 14th October, Ulster Tennis are engaging with Sport NI to get additional and more specific guidance on certain issues and hope to have a formal document to clubs as soon as possible. Once we have sight of these protocols we will relate same to members.

In the meantime, Ulster Tennis have advised the points that apply to Tennis activity and which will come into effect from Friday 16th October at 6pm for a period of at least four weeks:

  • Tennis Clubs should continue to operate with an assigned COVID-19 Officer and committee responsible for managing issues and queries relating to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Clubs must implement and manage a court booking system in order to assist with contact tracing.
  • In order to discourage travel, Open Tournaments, Inter Club Leagues and Internal Leagues should be postponed.
  • Outdoor play should, ideally, be casual in nature with a heightened emphasis on social distancing and hand hygiene.
  • Coaching can only be delivered outdoors only and Coaches are asked to limit sessions to pods of 6 players per court with a maximum of 4 players on court at any one time. In order to ensure social distancing, players should remain in their designated areas of the court during sessions. This applies to adults and juniors with exception of Red ball players where 8 players can be taken on one court.
  • Clubhouses should close except for essential personnel.
  • Toilets can remain open subject to a one in one out policy applying.
  • Members and staff with colds or any symptoms of COVID-19 must stay away from the club
  • Physical distancing rules must be observed at all times in the car park and on the courts.

OUR CLUB

Until we receive the further update from Ulster Tennis the immediate impact on events at our club is as follows:

  • Autumn League - paused with immediate effect – we will restart once restrictions are lifted

  • Singles Box League – paused with immediate effect - we will restart once restrictions are lifted
    • In the meantime, the club suggests that players use the contact details within the league info and within the Court Booking system to arrange casual matches for the next number of weeks.

  • Adult Club Night
    • Starting Tuesday 20th October there will now be two club nights from 8pm to 10pm on Tuesday and Wednesday each week.
    • Numbers must be strictly limited on each of the two nights
    • Players who wish to play must text John Griffin on (07867 551400 ) by Monday of each week
    • Players can only arrive at club night on specific invitation of John Griffin each week
    • John will do all he can to accommodate each member but please be considerate of the restrictions John is operating under.
    • Prospective new members wishing to attend club night should also text John Griffin in advance

  • Junior Club Night (Fridays) - to continue under current arrangements
  • Junior and Adult Coaching
    • Current coaching guidelines remain unchanged
    • all current arrangements to continue as now, as they comply with all restrictions and social distancing rules
    • if changes are required going forward Matthew and Louise will inform individuals affected directly
  • Visitors –visitors are not allowed to play on the courts during the current restrictions with the following exception
    • Prospective new members may attend Adult Club Night but must obtain an invite from John as above
    • Non members attending the 7pm Tuesday Coaching Programme are free to continue attending this programme
  • Singles & Doubles - There are no restrictions on casual tennis matches arranged by members
    • All members are free to play singles matches and doubles against ALL members of the club.
    • All players must socially distance at all times and sanitise their hands before and after matches
    • All players must pre-book courts through the Online Court Booking System
    • Online Check-in – Players must check-in using the online / mobile check in App

Finally, as an important reminder

  • YOU CANNOT ATTEND THE COURTS IF
    • You have displayed Covid 19 symptoms in the previous 14 days or
    • Have been in contact with someone with symptoms within the previous 14 days or
    • You have been out of the country within the previous 14 days
  • Social Distancing of a minimum of 2 METERS is to be observed at all times
  • NO HANDSHAKES or other close quarter gestures are permitted.

Hopefully, the above information will help members continue to access the courts regularly while staying safe within the important Government protocols.

Once we receive the formal updated protocols from Ulster Tennis, we will review each activity and update members as required.

Yours in Sport

ELTC Covid Committee
